Round 2 and the Family.. / Round2と親戚と…。

少し前にSNSなどでも告知しましたが、今年10月（10日～12日）に再びGUTSを開催します。
I mentioned this briefly on social media a little while ago, but GUTS will be back this October (10th–12th).

ゲストは、前回来日してくれたマイク・マイヨロスと、みなさんお馴染みのジェームス・マンキです。カナダ人ふたりをゲストにしたのは、ただの偶然ではなく、ちゃんと目論見があります。まぁ、そのあたりは追々お話ししましょう。
今回もまた「狩猟文化」に触れていこうと思っています。進吾さんが今まさにアラスカでクジラを獲っている真っ最中なので、きっとまた新しいお話を聞かせてもらえるでしょう。
そして、ここ数年お休みしていたロール競技会も復活させます。今のところ、3クラス設ける予定です。お祭りみたいに、賑やかにやりたいですね。

・ビギナークラス：ロールを始めて2年未満
・シニアクラス：65歳以上
・スタンダードクラス

もちろん、競技会の前にはゲスト2名によるロールレクチャーもあります。マスタークラスのコーチングをたっぷり堪能していただけると思います。詳細が決まり次第、追ってお知らせします。お楽しみに。

もう一点。前回、執行部側の都合でキャンセルとなった「ストーリーテリング」もコンテンツに加えます。当初予定していたものより、さらに濃くて深い内容になるはずです。その後の展開にも注目していただきたいところです。ちょっと他では見たことがないようなものになると思います。どうぞご期待ください。

GUTSとは関係ないのですが……（いや、あるかな。あるわ、あるある）。
機関誌の発行も進めています。年2回の発行予定で、夏頃にリリースするものを「QJ-mini」、年末に冊子形式で発行するものを「QJ」とします。「QJ」は以前にも発行していましたが、このたびめでたく復刊です。内容はもちろん、グリーンランドカヤックにまつわる話やQJの活動報告などです。今後、編集長の鈴木恵さんから会員のみなさんへ記事執筆のお願いが届くこともあるかと思います。その際は、ぜひ快く引き受けていただけると助かります。ご協力のほど、よろしくお願いいたします。

個人的なお話になります。
現在、QJとSTORM ONの二足の草鞋で活動させていただいています。ありがとうございます。
お気づきかもしれませんが、執行部の面々もシェルターメンバー（内々では“親戚”と呼んでいます）なので、正直なところ最近は境目が分からなくなってきています。いやいや、別に致命的な問題があるわけではないんです。なんとなくモヤモヤして気持ち悪いだけです（笑）。
ただ、執行部メンバーとサクッと顔を合わせられるのは、とても良いですね。シェルターでカヤックを作りながら、あるいは海でロール練習をしながら、「あ、そうだ」と思った瞬間にその場で相談できるスピード感は、とても心地よいです。

ついでなのでもう少し。
“親戚”のみなさんの多くは、そもそもたまたまシェルターの前を通りかかった方々なんです。カヤック未経験者も半分以上かな。たまたま通りかかって、グリーンランドカヤックの美しさに魅了されて、今に至る――そんな感じです。
シェルター前の道路って、どこかへ抜ける道でもなく、東京湾沿いの堤防で行き止まりなんです。だから、人通りも車通りもかなり少ないです。広報宣伝も、特に大っぴらにやっているわけではありません。むしろ控えめ。「本当に集客する気あるの？」と言われても、否定できません。そんな環境の中で集まってきた方々ですから、ものすごい偶然の塊みたいなものです。それでいて絶妙なパワーバランスを保っているのだから、不思議です。さらに、みなさん只者じゃない。ほかではなかなか出会えないような引き出しを持っています。
なんて言うんでしたっけ？ わんぱく相撲じゃなくて……えーーっと。

そんなわけで、代表になったときに「ここのメンバーで固めよう」と思ってしまったのは、ある意味必然だったのでした。

「次はどんな人が通りかかるんだろう」と、今から手ぐすね引いています。
アリ地獄じゃねーよ！（笑）

Our guests will be Mike Mayoros, who joined us on his previous visit to Japan, and of course James Manke, who needs no introduction to most of you. Having two Canadians as guests isn't just a coincidence — there’s actually a plan behind it. But I’ll save that story for later.
This time as well, we’ll continue exploring the topic of hunting culture. Shingo is currently in Alaska, right in the middle of whale hunting season, so I’m sure he’ll come back with new stories and experiences to share.
We’re also bringing back the rolling competition, which has been on hiatus for the past few years. At the moment, we’re planning to have three divisions:

Beginner Class: Less than 2 years of rolling experience
Senior Class: Age 65 and above
Standard Class

We’d like it to feel more like a festival than a serious competition — lively, fun, and something everyone can enjoy together.
And of course, before the competition itself, both guests will be giving rolling lectures. You'll have a chance to experience coaching from true masters of the craft. We’ll keep you updated as more details are confirmed. Looking forward to it.

One more thing: we're also bringing back the "Storytelling" session that had to be canceled last time due to scheduling issues on the organizing side. I think it’s going to become something even richer and deeper than originally planned. I’d also love for people to keep an eye on where it goes afterward. I think it may become something you don't really see in other clubs. Stay tuned!

This isn't directly related to GUTS... well, actually, maybe it is. Yeah, it probably is.
We're also moving ahead with the publication of our club magazine. The plan is to publish twice a year: a lighter summer edition called QJ-mini, and a printed year-end edition simply called QJ. Some of you may remember that QJ existed before, so we're happy to say that it's officially coming back. The content will focus on Greenland kayaking, stories surrounding it, and updates on QJ activities.
At some point, our editor-in-chief, Megumi Suzuki, may reach out to members with requests for articles. If that happens, we'd really appreciate your cooperation and hope you'll be willing to contribute. Thank you in advance.

Now for something more personal.
These days I'm wearing two hats — one with QJ and one with STORM ON. Thank you for allowing me to do both.
You may have noticed that many of our executive members are also Shelter members (internally we jokingly call ourselves "the family"), and honestly, the line between the two worlds has started getting a little blurry. No, no — there isn't some major problem going on. It just feels slightly strange sometimes. That's all. (lol) But one thing I really enjoy is being able to casually meet and talk with the executive members. Whether we're building kayaks at the Shelter or practicing rolls out on the water, if an idea pops into my head, I can bring it up right there on the spot. That kind of speed and spontaneity feels really good.

Since I'm already talking about it, I'll keep going a little longer.
Most of our "the family" originally became involved for a very simple reason: They just happened to walk past the Shelter. I'd say more than half of them had never even kayaked before. They happened to pass by, became fascinated by the beauty of Greenland kayaks, and somehow ended up here. The road in front of the Shelter doesn't really lead anywhere. It just runs into the seawall facing Tokyo Bay. So there isn't much foot traffic or car traffic. And we don't exactly advertise aggressively either. Actually, we're pretty quiet about it. If someone said, "Are you even trying to attract people?" ...I honestly couldn't completely deny it. So the people who ended up gathering here are really like a collection of incredible coincidences. And somehow, despite that, the balance of personalities works surprisingly well. What's even stranger is that nobody here is ordinary. People bring unique skills and perspectives that you don't come across every day.
What was that word again? Not... sumo... uh... Liangshan Marsh? That's it! (Okay, only the "shan" part matched.)
So when I became the representative and thought, "I want to build a team around these people," maybe that was inevitable after all.

Now I'm sitting here wondering:
"Who will randomly walk past next?"
It's not an antlion trap, I swear. hahaha!
