GUTS2026：主旨と意図 / Purpose & Reason

Facebookなどではすでに告知していますが、今年のGUTSは3月に開催します。例年は10月ですが、今年この時期に開催することには理由があります。
We have already announced it on Facebook, but this year, GUTS will be held in March. Usually, we do it in October, but there's a reason for the change.

今期、QajaqJPNの活動方針を少し見直そうと考えています。これまでQJは、ロールコンペやカヤックメイキングを中心に活動してきました。それ自体はもちろん素晴らしいことです。ですが、「Qajaq」という活動全体を見渡すと、もっと大切にしたいことがあります。それは、Qajaqを取り巻く文化や背景を知ることです。

この方針のシフトを皆さんに共有するには、10月では一年の後半になってしまい少し遅すぎます。できるだけ早い時期、前半の段階で直接お話ししたい――そんな思いから、3月開催に踏み切りました。
狩猟文化の一端を知ることで、ロールするときの意識やカヤックを作るときの想いが変わるかもしれません。ただ単に楽しむだけでなく、「異国の文化に触れている」という意識を持つことで、誰かにその面白さを伝えるときに誤解を生む可能性も減らせるはずです。他国の文化を間違った情報として伝えることは避けたいです。

ということで、今回のGUTSではロールレクチャーだけでなく、グリーンランドについての知識や情報に触れる時間も設ける予定です。
ただ、このシフトチェンジは一回や二回のGUTSで完遂できることではないと思っています。現執行部の任期内で、これを一つのシリーズ化として扱い、徐々にでも浸透していけば御の字なのかもしれません。

GUTS2026 は、カヤックを楽しむだけでなく、その背景にある文化や歴史を学ぶことで、より深く理解し、体験の質を高めることを目的としています。ロールやカヤック制作の技術だけでなく、文化や知識にも触れることで、参加者それぞれの意識や想いが豊かになることを目指します。

例年10月に開催しているGUTSですが、今年は活動方針のシフトを前半に共有したいため3月に開催します。
狩猟文化やカヤックにまつわる歴史を知ることで、ロールやカヤック制作に取り組む際の意識や感覚が変わり、参加者が他者にその面白さを正しく伝えることにもつながると考えています。
そのため、今回のGUTSではロールレクチャーに加え、文化や背景についての知識や情報を共有する時間も重要視したいところです。



This season, we're slightly shifting the focus of QajaqJPN's activities. So far, we've centered on roll competitions and kayak-making workshops. Of course, that's great. But if you look at "Qajaq" activities as a whole, there's something even more important: understanding the culture and background behind it.

If we waited until October to share this shift, it would be a bit too late in the year. We wanted to share it early in the year, face-to-face, so we decided on March.

By learning a bit about hunting culture, it might change the way you approach rolling or building a kayak. It's not just about having fun — if you can feel that you're experiencing a different culture, it will also help prevent misunderstandings when sharing the excitement with others. We should avoid conveying other countries' cultures as misinformation.
In that sense, this year's GUTS will include roll lectures but also a little bit of learning about the cultural background.
That said, I don’t think this shift can be accomplished in just one or two GUTS sessions. During the current executive board’s term, if we treat this as a recurring series and gradually let it take root, that would already be a satisfactory outcome.

GUTS2026 aims not just to enjoy kayaking, but also to understand the culture and history behind it. By experiencing both the techniques and the background knowledge, participants can deepen their appreciation and make the experience more meaningful.

②Reason for Doing It This Way
Usually, we hold GUTS in October, but this year we're moving it to March so we can share the shift in our activity focus earlier in the year.
Learning about hunting culture and the history of kayaking can change the way participants approach rolling and building kayaks, and help them share the fun more accurately with others.
That's why this year's GUTS will include roll lessons as well as some time to learn about the cultural background.
